Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM®) – Live online review course.

The CPMM Review Course is an intensive instructor-led program designed to prepare facilities and maintenance professionals for the CPMM certification exam. What are the eligibility requirements?

Candidates should meet one of the following:

  • Five (5) years of experience in maintenance, facilities, or engineering; OR

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field; OR

  • Three (3) years of experience in maintenance, facilities, or engineering combined with post-secondary education in a related field.

Eligibility will be verified by the Association for Facilities Engineering® (AFE) as part of the credentialing process.

The digital review book is provided for individual participant use and may not be downloaded, shared, or distributed.

Credential awarded

Participants who successfully pass the exam will earn the Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM) credential issued by the Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE).

Digital and printed credentials will be issued by AFE. Printed certificates will be mailed to the participant’s shipping address.

Program delivery & credential management 

The Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE) is responsible for the academic delivery and credentialing components of the program. This includes participant onboarding, distribution of study materials, coordination of the instructor-led review sessions, examination administration, and issuance of digital and printed credentials.

IREM manages program promotion, registration, and payment collection through its registration system.

Yes. The CPMM exam is open book.

Is a retake included if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

Yes. One complimentary retake is included.

Do I need to complete the self-study before the live sessions?

Participants are encouraged to begin the self-study in advance to maximize the value of the instructor-led review sessions.

How do I track my progress during the program?

Each unit includes a pre-test and post-test to help participants evaluate their knowledge and reinforce key concepts throughout the learning process.

Are the live sessions mandatory?

Attendance is strongly recommended, as the sessions provide structured review, key topic reinforcement, and exam preparation guidance.

What credential will I earn?

Participants who successfully pass the exam will earn the Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM) credential issued by AFE.

What is the difference between the CPM and CPMM?

The CPM® is the Certified Property Manager certification offered by the Institute of Real Estate Management® (IREM). The CPMM® is the Certified Professional Maintenance Manager offered by the Association of Facility Engineers® (AFE).

IREM offers its own CPM certification and is partnering with AFE to offer their CPMM certification.
